Continuous welding without proper temperature control between layers: If the interval between layers is too long and welding begins without reheating, cracks are likely to form. Conversely, if the interval is too short and temperatures are too high, both the weld and the heat-affected zone will suffer adverse effects, leading to coarse grain structure and reduced plasticity and ductility.
When butt welding plates of different thicknesses, structural welders must verify whether the thickness difference falls within permissible limits. If outside these standards, proceeding with welding may cause stress concentrations in the welded area, leading to defects like incomplete fusion and compromising the quality of the structural weld.
